Ex- NFL Athlete Antonio Brown Enters Innocent Plea in Attempted Murder Case
Former National Football League wide receiver Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to face an attempted murder allegation stemming from a shooting that took place in May, with his attorney entering a not guilty declaration on his behalf.
Detention logs in Essex, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was discharged on Tuesday early for his transfer to the state of Florida. Brown, among the most famous athletes in the National Football League, had relinquished extradition to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was held after being apprehended in Dubai.
Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, said in an email that he has earlier filed a written not guilty declaration to the attempted murder allegation. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as early as Wednesday early for a bond proceeding, Eiglarsh added.
As per his apprehension document, Brown is alleged of grabbing a firearm from a safety employee after a star fighting contest in May and discharging two rounds at a person he had confronted with previously. The alleged target, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told investigators that a bullet grazed his nape.
Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was merely defending himself from Nantambu.
“The steps he was obliged to take were exclusively in self-defense against the claimed victim’s violent conduct. Brown was targeted that evening and acted within his lawful entitlement to protect himself,” Eiglarsh said.
Brown was not right away apprehended because at first authorities did not recognize Nantambu as a affected party. It only later in May that Nantambu delivered a detailed testimony about the event to authorities and identified Brown as the perpetrator, the affidavit says.
Based on his social media content, Brown had been living in Dubai for a number of weeks. In a post after the incident, Brown said he was protecting himself because he was “assaulted by numerous people who sought to rob my valuables and inflict bodily damage to me.”
A second-degree attempted murder allegation in Florida carries a highest 15-year jail term and up to a ten thousand dollar fine in the event of a conviction.
Brown has dealt with numerous court issues over the period. He earlier had been charged of assault of a delivery operator, various domestic violence allegations, neglect to pay family payments and additional occurrences.
Throughout a 2021 match with Tampa Bay against the opponents, Brown removed his jersey, protective gear and gloves and left the field, leading to his release by the franchise and practically halting his football career.
Brown, who had a dozen years in the league, was an top-tier receiver who passed most of his tenure with Pittsburgh. For his time, Brown had over 900 catches for more than 12,291 distance, the 28th greatest of history. He was a 7-time all-star pick.
